Hybrid

RATM (Rage Against The Machine) 이 해체 된 후 사실상 RATM 에서 보컬인 잭 드 라 로차(Zack de la Rocha)가 탈퇴한 셈이 되었었다. 나머지 멤버들은 모두 Soundgarden 의 보컬 Chris Cornell 과 Audioslave 를 결성했다.

하지만,....... 음....... 그닥........ 음.................

어쨌건, 현재로써는 Audioslave 가 3집까지 나왔고, 공식적으로 해체가 된지는 모르겠지만, 지금은 RATM 이 재결성한 상태다. RATM 으로 공연은 하고 있지만, 더이상 RATM 으로 새 앨범이 나오는 일은 없을 것이라고 못을 박았다고 한다.

반면 RATM 의 기타리스트이자, 내가 가장 좋아하는 기타리스트인[1] Tom Morello 는 The Nightwatchman 이라는 이름으로 솔로 활동을 하고 있었다. 자신을 뮤지션이자 사회운동가라고 말하는 Tom 은 예전의 다양한 소리를 내던 일렉기타를 뒤로하고 어쿠스틱 기타를 들고 (다른 세션과 같이) 좀 더 차분한 음악을 한다.

하지만, 여전히! RATM 과 마찬가지로 사회에 대한 반항을 나타낸다. (물론 RATM 처럼 강렬하진 않다.) 그 중에 Road I Must Travel 이라는 곡이다.

처음부터 끝까지 몇마디만을 지겹도록 반복하는데,

중독됐다. -ㅅ-;; 도대체 몇번을 반복해서 듣는건지 모르겠다.

사실, 솔찍히 말하면, 나는 탐 모렐로나 RATM 이 나타내는 정치적 성향에는 그렇게 큰 관심이 없다. 물론, 탐 모렐로나 RATM 은 특정 정치를 주장하는게 아니라, 거의 아나키스트에 가깝도록 정치/사회에 대해 불의에 투쟁하는 것이기 때문에 어떻게 보면 딱히 반대할 이유도 없고, 어떻게 보면 찬성할 이유도 없다. (단, 나는 아나키즘은 지지하지 않는다.)

RATM 의 음악, 그리고 The Nightwatchman 의 음악을 제대로 이해하기에는 역사에 대해서도 잘 알지 못하고, 정치에 대해서도 정말 정말 관심이 없다.

하지만, 자유를 위해 투쟁하고, 불의를 대항해 맞서고, 자신들의 신념을 음악으로 나타내는 이들이 너무너무 좋다.

해체가 되더라도 죽 RATM 의 노래를 들었는데, 다시 재결합까지 되서 다행이다. 가능성은 적더라도 앨범 발매까지 이어졌으면 하는 바램이다.
